The four building blocks
What alpha-ketoglutarate is
Alpha-ketoglutarate (AKG) is a small organic acid that human cells make themselves. Biochemists know it as an intermediate of the citric acid cycle (also called the Krebs cycle), the series of reactions mitochondria use to process nutrients. It also links to nitrogen and amino acid metabolism. A 2016 review in Biomolecules & Therapeutics summarizes these roles (Wu et al., 2016).
Describing what a molecule does in normal biochemistry is different from describing what a supplement does. The pages here stick to the first and to how the product is made.
Why the tablet design matters
The SDAI AKG tablet uses a sustained-release matrix. It showed a 6-hour release in laboratory dissolution testing. Read how that test works.
